St. Joseph Museum Awarded $50,000 From IMLS

A grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services will help the St. Joseph museums care for their large and diverse collection.

The St. Joseph Museums announced Wednesday they have been awarded $50,000 from the IMLS to hire a storage solutions contractor to install custom-built compact and rolled storage systems to properly house and care for their large and diverse collection of more than 200,000 objects, photos, archival materials, and books, which support its mission to preserve and interpret the stories of the St. Joseph community and its citizens.

The newly installed storage hardware is specifically designed to allow flexibility for the future growth and accessibility of the collection, ensuring space for any new items donated while allowing the museum to safely store, preserve, and make their artifacts accessible for future generations.

The Institute of Museum and Library Services is the primary source of federal support for the nation’s libraries and museums.
