(MissouriNet) A series of grants are available at the state and federal levels for Missouri farmers and producers. Rebecca Lobina with the Small Business Development Center in St. Joseph is able to help farmers in the northwest part of the state apply for these grants. She says one of the most important things to know when applying for grants is if they require matching funds.
“Do you have the matching funds required? And so that’s very, very important. That’s the one thing that a lot of these people who are applying for grants don’t realize is that many of them, not all, but many of them require that you have matching funds. And so, it could be you know, you have to have 10% of the project or you have to match exactly, you know, 100% of – like, if you get 10 grand, you have to have 10 grand to match it,” she says.
Lobina says it can take months before you hear back on whether you’ll receive that grant.
