Two Area Residents Facing Drug Trafficking Charges Following Weekend Arrest in Buchanan County

(ST. JOSEPH, MO) -Two area residents are facing second-degree drug trafficking charges following an arrest made Sunday afternoon in Buchanan County.

At 2:35 P.M. the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested 54-year-old St. Joseph man Larry R. Newman and 30-year-old Excelsior Springs man Jason R. Schakel.

Schakel also is facing charges of driving while intoxicated on drugs, possession of a controlled substance for alprazolam, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Newman was held at Mosaic Life Care but was later released, and Schakel was booked on a 24-hour hold at the Buchanan County Law Enforcement Center.
