Dominant Defense, Efficient Offense Sends Platte Valley Into Class 1 Girls Show Me Showdown Title Game

For the fourth time in the last five years, the Platte Valley girls basketball team will be playing in the MSHSAA Class 1 Show Me Showdown Championship game. Wednesday night, the Platte Valley girls used a dominant defensive effort and a very efficient offense to beat Liberal 55-25 in their Class 1 semi-final at Mizzou Arena. Platte Valley settled in on offense early with Tina Turpin scoring 7 early points as Platte Valley took a 20-7 first quarter lead.

Platte Valley senior Maggie Collins was sent to the bench in the 2nd quarter with two fouls about halfway through the period, but Platte Valley answered by extending the lead to 31-15 at halftime. Senior Kali Redden.

 

Junior Maleeah Bliley also scored 12 points, had 2 steals, and just 1 turnover in 28 minutes of floor time.

 

Liberal Head Coach Brandi Goodell says the Bulldogs were never really comfortable shooting during the game.

 

Platte Valley will face NE Cairo in the Class 1 Girls Championship game on Thursday night. NE Cairo defeated Delta 64-55.
