Graceland Athletes Competing In World Competition

Two Graceland University track and field athletes have been selected to compete and represent the USA in Chengdu, China at the 2021 FISU World University Games beginning Friday and continuing through August 8th.

Sidney Gilliland of Lee’s Summit placed 4th at the 2023 NAIA Outdoor National Championship last year in the Women’s High Jump.  She won the Heart of America Conference Outdoor Championship.

Michael Millslagle of Lamoni won the 2023 NAIA Indoor Men’s High Jump Championship and became the first individual to win a men’s national title in the program’s history.

The Summer and Winter, World University Games are the largest global sports events for student-athletes. Held every two years in different cities worldwide, they bring together thousands of athletes from over 150 countries and have a program that includes over 25 sports—Chengdu 2021 FISU Games, which features 18 sports and 269 medal events.

The games are considered the 2021 FISU Games because they were postponed in 2021 due to COVID concerns.

Michael Millslagle is scheduled to compete in qualification on Tuesday, August 1st.  Sidney Gilliland will be competing in qualification on Thursday, August 3rd.
