GU’s Michael Millslage Leaps To NAIA High Jump Championship
Graceland Student Athlete and Lamoni native Michael Millslagle claimed an individual national championship at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday afternoon in Brookings, South Dakota. Millslagle cleared 7′ in the Men’s High. He passed at the opening height of 6’5″. He then cleared 6’7″, 6’8 1/4″, 6’9 1/2″, 6’10 3/4″, and was the only athlete to clear 6’11 3/4″. He cleared the height on his first attempt. He placed 5th at the championships last year.
Graceland’s Paul Marchand is also an All-American. Marchand placed 7th in the Men’s Long Jump. His second jump was 23’7 1/2″.
Graceland’s Ashlynn Perkins competes in the Women’s High Jump on Saturday.
Graceland will have two wrestlers receiving medals from the National Wrestling Championships. At 133, Joe Lupton reached the quarterfinals and then won a 4th round consolation. At 285, David Toese lost his opening bout and has won 4 straight matches to qualify for the medal rounds at the NAIA Championships
