MSHSAA Scholar Bowl Quarterfinals Recap
Four area quiz bowl teams will travel to Columbia in two weeks for MSHSAA’s state Scholar Bowl finals, after picking up victories in their quarterfinal contests last (Wednesday) night.
Tarkio will make a return trip to the Class One tournament after needing all three matches to get past conference foes Osborn. The Indians will have an opportunity to improve on last year’s fourth place finish. However, they’ll be the lone standard bearers from the 275 Conference, as Union Star was swept by defending champions North Shelby.
Class Two saw Grand River Conference runners-up Polo defeat West Platte two games to one. The Panthers finished third in 2019 and fourth in 2016. In Class Three, East Buchanan’s wait for a trip to state will continue after the Bulldogs fell to Kansas City Lutheran. Savannah came up short in their bid for an eighth state title, as Hallsville claimed the sweep in their Class Four quarterfinals. Smithville will be the lone returning team to the Class Five semifinals after dispatching Raytown South in two games. And in Class Six, Saint Joseph Central will claim a seventh consecutive trophy finish after posting a pair of solid victories over Liberty North.
The MSHSAA State Scholar Bowl tournament makes its return to Memorial Union on the University of Missouri campus in Columbia. Classes One through Three will play May 6th, while Classes Four through Six will compete May 7th.
