Northwest Missouri State Women, Missouri Western Men Advance To MIAA Basketball Tourney Quarterfinals

Men
Game 1-Missouri Western 69 Washburn 63
Missouri Western Men’s basketball team forced 15 steals and blocked 6 shots in the first game of the 2023 MIAA Basketball Tournament. Julius Dixon scored 20 points. Taye Fields had his 6th double-double of the year. Missouri Western built a 10-point lead with 8:45 to play, but Washburn cut the lead to 64-63 with 34 seconsd left. Missouri Western got a dunk and put the game away with free throws.

Game 2-Missouri Southern 70 Northeastern State 60

Game 1-Northwest Missouri State 70 Newman 54
Northwest Missouri State didn’t trail after getting the lead in the first two and a half minutes of the game. Northwest took its largest lead of the night with a Caely Kesten three-pointer with 9:11 remaining in the game which gave the squad a 21-point advantage. Later in the quarter, Peyton Kelderman made a layup that gave the ‘Cats a 21-point lead once again to make the score 63-42 with 3:55 to go in the game. Caely Kesten led the team with 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting and two threes. Lindsey Kelderman finished with 12 points, and Emma Atwood had a 10 points and a team-high six rebounds.
