South Harrison, Mid Buchanan, Braymer Win District Softball Titles, Other Class 1 Championships Tuesday
The South Harrison Girls Softball team survived giving up 7 runs in the top of the 7th inning in the District 6 championship game at Trenton on Monday night and then won in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the inning as South Harrison claimed a 9-8 win to move on to the Class 2 MSHSAA softball quarterfinals.
South Harrison defeated two-time champion Marceline to win the title. South Harrison scored five runs on just an infield hit and a big three-base outfield error in the first inning to take a 5-0 lead. South Harrison added on one more in the third inning but also left the bases loaded in the second and third innings. Marceline got one run back in the 4th. South Harrison would get two more in the sixth inning and took an 8-1 lead into the 7th. In that 7th inning, Marceline sent 11 to the plate and tied the game on a second base hit of the inning by left fielder Lucy Mosley. South Harrison opened their bottom of the seventh inning with a Lexi Hunter single. She stole second and third and then scored when the throw to third base was deflected into short left field. Hannah Carter pitched a complete game for South Harrison who won for the 24th time this season. South Harrison’s record is now 24-6 on the season. Head Coach Aaron Fitzpatrick says the two-time champions were tough to put away.
He says South Harrison had a appropriate mindset entering the bottom of the 7th inning.
South Harrison will face Bowling Green in the Class 2 MSHAA Softball Quarterfinals.
