DEKALB, Mo. – Esther Ellen Teaney, 100, of DeKalb, Missouri, passed away Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024, in a Kansas City, Kansas, assisted living facility. She was born June 27, 1923, in DeKalb, daughter of the late Annie (Hiatt) and Frank Downing. She graduated from DeKalb High School class of 1941 and married Paris “Jack” Teaney Jr. on May 8, 1944, in Atchison, Kansas.

She retired from Geeco Sign Company and was a homemaker. Esther enjoyed jigsaw and crossword puzzles, she loved to sew and was very talented at knitting, crochet, and quilting. She also loved watching sports, especially baseball, basketball and football.

Esther was preceded in death by husband, Paris “Jack” Teaney Jr.; her parents; sister, Betty Spillman; brothers, Everett and Russell Downing.

Survivors include son, Jim (Jeanie) Teaney, Kansas City, Kansas, Bob (Patty) Teaney, Princeton, Kentucky, and David (Renee) Teaney, Shawnee, Kansas; sister-in-law, Sue Teaney, of New Mexico; grandchildren, Joelle (Dwayne) Kernitzki, Jayanne (Randy) Teaney-Lierz, Matt Teaney, Jared (Sydney) Teaney, Rebecca (Anthony) Barker; great- grandchildren, Tony, Silas, Kemper, Elise, Cameron, Phoenix, Justin and Robbyn.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024, at the Rupp Funeral Home. Funeral services and public live stream 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2024, at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be at the Westlawn Cemetery, DeKalb.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westlawn Cemetery Association or to DeKalb Christian Church.
