Evelyn C. Gray

Evelyn C. Gray, age 84, Hopkins, Missouri died unexpectedly at Mosaic Medical Center in Maryville, Missouri, December 7, 2023.

Evelyn was born on April 21, 1939, in Georgiana, Alabama. She was the daughter of the late Harvey and Lilly (Mitchell) Cartwright.

She was married to Charles Edward Gray on August 25, 1954, in Georgiana. They met and were married while he was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia. To this union four children were born Margaret, Wanda, Edward and Billy.

Evelyn had previously worked at the former Pope and Talbot Diaper Plant in Maryville.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Gray (July 14, 2016), parents Harvey and Lilly Cartwright, sisters Francis Nichlos, Jean Shows and a brother James Cartwright.

Her survivors include daughter Margaret Smith, Bedford, Iowa, son Ed (Jamie) Gray, Lebanon, Missouri, daughter Wanda (Guy) Fletchall, Grant City, Missouri, son Bill Gray, Hopkins, sister Bobby Sweatt Griffon, Georgia, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, and a host of other friends and loved ones.

Mrs. Gray has been cremated under the care of Hann Funeral Home, Grant City. A Celebration of Life will be held 10:30 AM, Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at the Hopkins Christian Church in Hopkins. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30 prior to the service. Inurnment will be in the Hopkins Cemetery, Hopkins.
