John Merril Carmichael, 93, of Maryville, MO, passed from this life on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at the Nodaway Nursing Home with family at his side.

John was born in Pickering, MO, on July 24, 1930, to John Jack and Pearl (Damgar) Carmichael.  He grew up near Pickering and graduated high school there, where he was a star basketball player.

He joined the US Army in 1952, and served his Country stationed in New York and Philadelphia.

He married Donna Mae Hanna on May 28, 1952, on her father’s farm, Mr. Elmer Hanna.

He had worked in production for many years at Energizer in Maryville.

He was a former member of the Pickering United Methodist Church, a member of the First United Methodist Church, Maryville.   And was a former member of the Kawanis Club, Maryville.

His parents preceded him in death, and his siblings, Virgil Carmichael, Hazel Bleich, and his in-laws, Bill Hanna and Doris Sample.

His survivors include his wife Donna of Maryville, MO, his daughter, Dee Dee (Ron) Church, Beverly, KS, 2 grandsons, John (Shanley) Morton, and Justin Wilmes, both of Maryville, and numerous nieces and nephew and his special caregivers, Rob and Sylvia Church, Maryville.

Services will be at 11:00 AM, on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at the Bram Funeral Home, Maryville.  The burial, with full military rites will follow at the Nodaway Memorial Gardens, Maryville.

The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
