Mary (Maxine) Butler was born on July 31,1928 in Gentry County, Missouri, to William and Ruth Floyd. Maxine lived in Albany, Missouri for 21 years, growing up on a farm and attending school in Gentry and Albany. She met her husband Euel Butler at the Pepsi Plant where they both worked. They were joined in marriage on September 19,1949 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Maxine and Euel moved to San Diego, California in 1950 and settled in Chula Vista, where they raised their family. Maxine was a faithful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, homemaker, church member, neighbor, and friend. She was dedicated to her family her entire life. Her home was always open to company, and her family fondly remembers many meals and holidays full of angel food cake, mashed potatoes, cheesy rice, cinnamon apples, berry cobblers, and other comfort foods.

She was proud of her career of 30 years, retiring as a credit union manager. Maxine was an avid San Diego Padres fan and always followed March Madness down to the final four. She read the San Diego Union Tribune every day and subscribed to the Albany Ledger to keep up with the happenings back in Missouri. Although Maxine made her life in California, home was always in Albany, Missouri. She returned every year until she was no longer able. She kept in touch with friends and family through letters, cards, and phone calls. Maxine instilled a love of family in her children, who enjoyed traveling back to Missouri every summer to spend time with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Lael Floyd. She is survived by her son David (Suellen), daughter Martha Lawson (Mehl), four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Martha Floyd, and many nieces and nephews.

Maxine passed on April 11, 2023 in her home of 72 years surrounded by her loving family.

On behalf of the family we want to thank her wonderful caregivers Lavoy, Adelina, and Erin, who made it possible for mom to stay in her home the last years of her life.
