Pet Of The Week – Charlie

What do you call a Great Pyrenees that is off-leash? A “Disa-Pyr”! And that is where today’s Pet of the Week story begins … Please meet Charlie! Charlie is a handsome Great Pyrenees mix who, before coming to the shelter, had a home and family of his own. However, without a fenced yard and also without an established understanding of his boundaries, Charlie (who is quite the social butterfly) kept crossing the highway to visit his favorite neighbors and his family decided that the safest option for Charlie would be to find a home with a fenced yard for him where he would be safe.

Charlie, who is only about 2 years old, is a friendly fella who is very sweet and still full of puppy playfulness. He loves people, and everyone he meets is his new best friend. He loves children and would be a great family dog, although because of his large size and young age, we do recommend that any children in the home be a bit older so that Charlie’s affection doesn’t bowl them over. Charlie gets along well with other dogs and, as his breed would suggest, Charlie is also very smart and loyal.

If Charlie could describe his perfect Forever Home, he would tell us that he would love to be part of a family that would allow him to be an indoor/outdoor dog with a comfy couch where he could snuggle with his people and a large, securely fenced yard so that he isn’t tempted to roam. Exploring the outdoors is a favorite activity for Charlie, so he would love to go on long securely-leashed walks where he promises to share the joy of discovering all the little things that we humans sometimes miss. Charlie would enjoy having a canine friend to romp and play with in his new home, but he respectfully requests that his new home has no chickens, as they are just too much of a temptation to his puppy playfulness.

Charlie will go to his Forever Home neutered, dewormed, heartworm tested, and up to date on all vaccinations including rabies. He is a loyal friend who just wants a family of his own to love; could that family be yours?
