Pet Of The Week – Maggie
Courtesy of Green Hills Animal Shelter

Pets come to Green Hills Animal Shelter from many different life situations, but once in a while one arrives with a story that breaks your heart, and Maggie is one of those pets.

You see, Maggie was dumped and left to fend for herself, but she wasn’t just dumped; she was also starving. Fortunately, a kind person saw Maggie and reached out to the shelter. When Maggie arrived in our care she was so thin and emaciated that she had the appearance of a walking skeleton. She was immediately taken to the vet, where a thorough check-up revealed that fortunately, the only thing Maggie needed to get better was food and lots of love.  Maggie was too weak to stay at the shelter, so she was taken home by a foster who lovingly fed her every 2 to 3 hours. Under their love and care, Maggie began to blossom, and within a week this girl with the most expressive ears ever had gained 8 pounds! Today Maggie has put on a total of 14 pounds; her ribs are no longer visible, her coat has taken on a beautiful gloss, and her personality has begun to shine!

Maggie, who we believe to be 1 to 2 years old, is one of the sweetest pups you could ever hope to meet. Despite what she has endured she loves everyone she meets and considers everyone her friend! We’re not positive of Maggie’s breed, but she reminds us of a Whippet and her ears are amazing! Maggie loves to go on walks and delights shelter staff and volunteers by prancing like a show pony on her leash. She loves to cuddle, and this affectionate girl is a true lap dog who will happily sit in her person’s lap for as long as possible. Maggie does well with other dogs but doesn’t want to share her food with them, which is perfectly understandable considering all she has been through. She is the perfect combination of playful, energetic, smart and cuddly. In short, Maggie is just about perfect!

If Maggie could describe her perfect Forever Home she would tell us that she would love to be an indoor dog with an active family who would shower her with love and care. She would very much like to go on long, leashed walks and then come home and snuggle with her family on the couch. Maggie would be quite happy to share her home with another dog and she would also be happy in a home with gentle children.

Maggie will go to her Forever Home spayed, dewormed, heartworm tested, and up to date on all vaccinations including rabies. She will also arrive with a heart overflowing with gratitude and love; wouldn’t you love to make her happy forever after come true?
