South Harrison Board Receives Summer Projects Update

South Harrison Superintendent Dennis Eastin provided an update on the summer projects taking place on the district campuses during a meeting held Monday night. The construction of the parking lot road is underway between the Career Center and the South Harrison Middle and High School. The project is still on schedule, but is being held up slightly while cement is being obtained. The elementary school has received painting and will have new flooring. There will also be a configuration at the elementary school that will provide an added security level and allow parents who may need to bring their child an item to bring that item to the school without actually entering the building.

South Harrison’s new website is now up. The new site will remain at the same address, but the site is intended to be much more user friendly. Superintendent Eastin also announced that the South Harrison school app is expected to be available within the week to the public. The app will be free and offered through Apple and Google Play.

Superintendent Eastin also notified board members that South Harrison’s school district will be one of the first districts in the state to go through the Missouri State School Improvement Review 6 process, otherwise known as MSIP 6. South Harrison has served as a pilot school for the Comprehensive School Improvement Program.

South Harrison High School Principal Jason Slaughter reviewed the Bulldog Time being offered for all high school grades for the coming year. All freshmen and sophomores will take the period in the coming year. It will be optional for the junior and senior classes. The Bulldog Time period will be held during the 4th hour and will be taken for credit. The period will be offered for either remediation or enrichment, depending on the student’s need. The week will include a weekly assessment of the student’s progress towards his or her goals, tutoring as needed, career education and community outreach, and college and career readiness.
